Some of you who have known me awhile know that I spend a lot of time "off the grid". I love to hike and get up to the mountains with family and friends or often I just go with my dogs, Baxter and Lilly. Spending a lot of my time lost in the beauty of places like Ward and Nederland inspired me to write a blog bout what it would be like to own a piece of Colorado.
I am often amazed at some of the listings for land that pop up on real estate websites such as LandsofAmerica.com, enticing me to either buy a piece of remarkable acreage or help a client to do so! According to what I see on REColorado, 2017 has shown us remarkable properties for sale. Thanks to REColorado for sharing the following stories, here are several of the most remarkable land transactions in Colorado.
Buying a Mountain - In August 2017, someone actually purchased Culebra Peak, a 14er located on private property in southern Colorado. Cielo Vista Ranch was listed for $105 million. For Coloradans setting out to hike all the 14ers in the state, they’ll have to get permission from the new owner to bag the 14,049′ peak of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains located within this extreme property.
Living Inside a National Park - Some of the most majestic land in Colorado is within the state’s national parks. If you’ve ever dreamed about living among untouched forest and in prestine natue, you have a chance. Black Canyon Reserve is on the market for $5.5 million. 33 acres of private land is tucked away inside the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
200,000 Acres Up For Grabs - One of the largest ranches in the country is on the market – Cross Mountain Ranch. Near Steamboat Springs, this expansive property includes several homes and a hunting lodge. Conservationists are drawn to the natural environment, frequently visited by sage grouse and elk herds. Portions of the property can be purchased separately, noted Mirr Ranch Group in the details about this extreme property.
Purchase an Entire Colorado Ghost Town - What is it like to buy a Colorado Town? NPR featured the story of Cabin Creek, a Colorado ghost town that was sold in January 2017. The prior owners advertised the sale of this extreme property on Craigslist. The town sale included a gas station, motel, cafe, RV park, and shooting range – a unique business opportunity for the new owner.
