When you visit Niwot, don’t forget to stop at Whistle Stop Park. Surrounded by eclectic older homes, Whistle Stop Park is the site of Rhythm on the Rails, Niwot’s award-winning concert series held each summer. If you’ve noticed a train theme, you would be correct. Evidence of Niwot’s ties to the railroad is abundant, from the names of streets to restored cabooses in backyards. Only a short walk from Whistle Stop Park is the Old Firehouse Museum, as well as the Hitching Post, also known as “The Best Little Horse House in Colorado”, the perfect place for the horse lover in your family to visit.
Feeling hungry? Niwot has a growing reputation for great restaurants. No matter what your taste, you’ll find what you like within minutes of where you live. The distinction of being the oldest restaurant in town goes to Lefty’s Gourmet Pizza, which besides serving great pizza also offers awesome ice cream cones. Pizza and ice cream are a great way to cap a wonderful day in charming downtown Niwot.
Near town is the Boulder Reservoir, a popular spot where locals go for swimming, boating, jogging, biking and bird watching. Featuring over 700 acres of fun and recreation, Boulder Reservoir is a great place to relax and enjoy the Colorado lifestyle. If you’re feeling more ambitious, within minutes of Niwot is an extensive network of trails for biking, jogging, walking, or just strolling.
Because of its close proximity to Boulder, Niwot residents can easily travel into Boulder for a University of Colorado Buffalo football game or to catch a concert at one of Boulder’s fantastic music venues. Every year world-renown musicians will come through Boulder at places like the Boulder Theater or the long-running eTown hall founded by Nick Forster.
